The Handless Maiden by Charmaine Lyons

Inspired by the book ‘Women Who Run With The Wolves’, by Dr Clarissa Pinkolo Estes, the tale, “The Handless Maiden” dives into the “Underground Forest” of the Psyche, the pear a symbol of the reclaiming and renewal of the feminine. Small acreage is mostly cleared when subdivision occurs. On my property however, the reclaiming and renewal of native species is encouraged, allowing for the natural regeneration of the land. Performed and filmed on my property, beneath a large native fig tree, the work explores themes of reclaiming and renewal. Several handcrafted ceramic pears will be suspended from the large fig, representing the gifts/fruits of reclaiming and renewal of the land. The Forests’ Dream, that Mother Earth will endure and overcome the raptures of human existence.
